The New York Times warns that nearly half of older adults are at risk of becoming frail. Frailty is evaluated on five key traits: weakness, slowness, exhaustion, physical inactivity and unintentional weight loss.
The creeping sedentarism of modern life is a growing menace which will assuredly get worse. Sure I love Netflix box sets like the next person, and everything from a dish washer, TV remote, and a microwave has a place in my house.
But home-working two floors above the kitchen ensures several hundred feet of climbing happen each day. Food shopping is done occasionally on foot. I will sit on the ground to watch TV and occasionally get up non-handed from a cross-legged position. I tend to be barefoot or just in socks around the house.
It is unnoticeably weird. It is vitally important. Bake it in to your daily life.
